“Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are.” – Malcolm Forbes

I love that quote.

I don’t know the context, background or circumstances that led Mr. Forbes to utter those words.  I don’t care. Some things just “are.” He may have been saying them to me.  I know I’ve spent a lot of time in my life looking over my shoulder at what the “other guy” is doing, or jealously wishing I could have had “this” or “that” opportunity.  The fact is, what I have, what you have, is more than enough.

Taking time to discover our strengths, gifts and talents has the ability to change the world.  It sounds dramatic, probably a little bit overstated and cliché, but I’m pretty sure that it’s true.

What is your purpose?  Call? Sweet spot? Passion?  I’m looking forward to Sandbox Cooperative with Shane Hipps to begin exploring some of these things with other people from Rochester and with an online community from around the country. I also would love to hear what you’re thinking… let’s continue the conversation on this blog.  Who knows, it may be one step in changing the world… or it may simply be a step toward beginning to truly value what you are.
